Mayor of Sister City Jinju, Korea Makes Plans to Visit Columbus

Following the October 2025 signing of a Friendship Agreement between Columbus, GA and Jinju, South Korea, plans have now been made to welcome Jinju Mayor Cho Kyu-il to Columbus this September. Upon visiting the city of Jinju, Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson shared, “I think we have formed a natural friendship through shared industrial and manufacturing background and the celebration of our river cities.” 

Sister Cities With Similar Goals

Jinju, Korea was chosen as a Sister City due to the close alignment of goals, objectives, and similarities between the two cities. Both Columbus and Jinju are known as “River Cities,” with the beautiful Nam River running through Jinju and the Chattahoochee in Columbus. There are also similarities in population size and a deep connection to the textile manufacturing industry; silk production in Jinju and cotton in Columbus. It has also been noted that both cities have a strong commitment to “servant leadership,” in which local businesses and leaders feel a deep responsibility to serve their communities. Columbus is thrilled for the opportunity to host one of Jinju’s servant leaders when Mayor Cho Kyu-il visits in September.
