From the Army to Private Manufacturing, Columbus, Georgia Plays a Leading Role in National Defense

Fort Moore plays an important role in our national defense and is located adjacent to Columbus, Georgia. It is home to the Maneuver Center of Excellence, Armor and Infantry schools, the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, 75th Ranger Regiment, the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade, Army Marksmanship Unit, Army National Guard Warrior Training Center, U.S. Army Reserve's 98th Training Division, and many more. Annually, 2,500 soldiers transition to civilian life from Fort Moore. Over 700 choose to stay in Columbus, Georgia.

This presents a distinct opportunity for defense companies looking to hire veterans, especially those with a security clearance. As an added advantage, companies can hire soldiers while they are transitioning and still on the Army’s payroll - eliminating the expense of paying a salary during the training period.

From a location standpoint, Columbus, Georgia is the second largest city in Georgia within the greater Huntsville, Alabama, and Savannah, Georgia region.

  • Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies, is investing an additional $206 million in Columbus, demonstrating the advantages of growing a defense company in Columbus.
